Bärresa

A high-grade outdoor clothing brand for those who want to step out of the din of a crowded market, a balance between an extreme performance brand and everyday wear.

problem

Launching a new outerwear concept in a market controlled by established powerhouses brings an innate challenge: being a product that stands out but still feels authentic. The brand had to establish an identity that was grounded in Scandinavian values without falling into generic outdoor clichés. The hardest part was striking the right balance between performance and lifestyle. Its positioning had to attract professionals operating in extreme environments and ordinary users interested in premium minimal design. Lacking a sturdy visual system, the brand also risked either leaving the market feeling too technical or too fashion-driven with weak market position and an emotional connection with consumers.

solution

I created an identity that was characterized by simplicity, symbolism, and clarity. The newly announced visual language pairs a cold blue palette drawn from glacier blue for the mountains, with a strong polar bear symbol. The logo was designed to appear classic and extremely functional but also to provide instant recognition for all aspects of an entire campaign range from small product labels through large campaigns. It is simple enough to blend comfortably with other elements of tech and urban living. Color, symbol, and typography all work together to show Scandinavian precision and a quiet confidence.

The last elements of this brand are performance, appearance and presence within fashion.

Bärresa is a line of outerwear that comes from the northern Swedish culture, it is inspired by all that is strength, precision and calm in wilderness life there. It comes from the Swedish words bear and journey. They combine to represent exploration, and resilience, made for people traveling through nature with a low-key resilience.

The Business Impact

Strong, premium visual identity fosters instant trust. The brand is of high quality and reliable, which is extremely important in the outdoor gear industry, as long as people really believe in performance and durability. The brand manages to expand its target market by skilfully integrating extreme functionality seamlessly into minimalist fashion. It is now able to compete with established heritage brands and be paid more. This leads to a versatile and highly meaningful brand system that grabs attention, sells well and gains a significant share of a big and noisy market.
